Eco flight - art becomes a social action
Spain
The nonprofit organization Otro Tiempo and the social enterprise Otro Planeta jointly implement the European project “Eco Flight – Art becomes a social action.” The program aims to raise awareness about the connection between waste production and climate change, as well as to develop environmental consciousness among children.
Objectives
- Raise awareness about the problem of waste pollution.
- Show how value can be created from what initially appears to be mere trash.
- Deepen children’s knowledge of sustainable waste management and creative recycling.
Today’s children already understand why sorting household waste is important, but these workshops provide additional practical skills and creative experiences.
Methodology
-
The workshops focus on collaborative creation and creative problem-solving.
Using simple techniques and craft methods, various types of waste are transformed into unique artworks—such as wall decorations, sculptures, or useful objects.
Workshop Types
1. Recycling Plastic Bags
Durstion: 2 hours
Participants will learn about the properties of different household plastics and experiment with sustainable artistic solutions. Plastic bags serve as a perfect example of how a common everyday product becomes an environmental problem due to the “use and discard” habit.
Creation: A collaborative eco-friendly wall decoration or sculpture, which remains at the school.
2. Creative Recycling of Tetrapak Packaging
Duration: 1-1,5 hours
Participants will learn that Tetrapak cartons are traditionally difficult to recycle because they consist of multiple layers of different materials. In the workshop, these packages are disassembled, cleaned, and then transformed into new, useful objects using templates.

Otro tiempo
Otro Tiempo is a non-profit NGO founded by feminist and ecologically committed women. They work for a just and diverse society free from violence. Their commitment to feminist and ecological principles, as well as their efforts to create a violence-free society, are truly inspiring. Their focus is on awareness-raising projects; fostering understanding and achieving positive change are key.
They use experiential and participatory pedagogies that focus on gender equality and human rights.
The Otro Planeta initiative is an inclusive enterprise created to change the lives of vulnerable women and/or survivors of gender-based violence. By collecting used cooking oil and converting it into biodiesel, they create jobs that help these women rebuild their lives and offer companies the opportunity to work on their corporate social responsibility (CSR).
This activity is co-funded by the Community of Madrid and the European Social Fund as part of the European Union's response to pandemic COVID-19.
